MOH Speech....

Part of being a Matron of Honor is the speech. While I love to talk and will talk to a stranger, I am not a fan of talking in front of crowds so it was probably one of my most nervous times in my life but yet one of the most proud ones I've had. Hello! I was making a speech at my best friends wedding. So I won't forget it....I'm putting it into the blog :

My name is Melinda. Kara and I met our freshman year of college where we lived on the same floor of the dorms at Ball State. Having been friends for over 10 years, I think it’s safe to say that I know more about her than most people and I may even know her better than Matt! With that being said, I’m sure she is secretly praying that I keep it that way in the next few minutes.

Kara-let me take this opportunity to say you are the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen and Thank you for asking me to stand beside you today as you married Matt and Matt it’s been a pleasure getting to know you over the last few years. I know that you love Kara with all of your heart and will cherish her for the rest of your life. Of course, if that ends up not the case, you’ll have me to answer too! Seriously, though, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making Kara the happiest she’s ever been in her life.

Kara and Matt met through Laura and JT’s wedding and I knew that he was the one for her when she called me the day after she met him and I could hear the excitement and happiness in her voice. It was a different type of happiness then I have ever heard from her and as cliché as it sounds her face lite up when she talked about him. I couldn’t be happier to share her with someone like Matt.

Over the last several years we’ve gone through major life changes together. From graduating college, first real world jobs, marriage, and a baby. I remember when we had our first “professional” job that we spent the majority of our free time during the day emailing each other discussing in details what our future weddings were going to be like. While some parts might have changed, what didn’t change was that we both married a perfect match and we were both apart of each others wedding.

There is no doubt that we’ve been through a lot together. From buying kittens together and realizing that we made a huge mistake and returned those 2 short days later to writing each other while one is away at summer camp to midnight swims in the ocean to summer concerts to a surprise flight to visit me when I gave birth to my daughter.

Kara, throughout the years, I have been blessed with your friendship. You’ve been that one rare friend in my life who has always been there-with me, beside me…ever present…solid and dependable, forever being able to speak in our own sarcastic lingo, providing me with perspective, as only you can. We can’t deny that we have certainly been through a lot together and as sad as the distance of living apart has been it’s only made our friendship stronger.

From the words of our favorite girl, Carrie Bradshaw: Some people are settling down, some people are settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies. So let’s raise our glasses and toast to a life full of butterflies for the new Mr & Mrs Fisher!
