Childbirth Class #1

Childbirth class #1 was last night. There are 5 of them and they are every Wednesday night from 7-9pm. After being at work at 6:30am I can't believe I actually stayed awake for the entire class. The class started with an introduction which was interesting in itself. There were girls there that weren't due until late January/February. It made me feel that my inner planner was slacking off. We introduced ourselves, told our due date, sex and name of the baby, and some various other questions. One of the questions was what is your biggest fear of being a parent. Of course I think about all the stuff that could go wrong but try not to think about it too much because it keeps me up and it could literally make you go crazy. So instead of a serious answer, I said "Well Jer is a Notre Dame and I am an Ohio State fan so our biggest fear is that she'll be a Michigan fan." The football fans in the room got it but some didn't. Michigan is a rival for both Ohio State and Notre Dame. We went through a PowerPoint slide show that gave us pre-term labor signs, went through female anatomy, and watched some animated videos about how the baby positioning can affect the birth. We then tried out some breathing and relaxation techniques with our partner/husband. We also had a tour of the "dad's retreat room." It has a big screen tv, couches/chairs, computer, fridge (with pop), and a microwave for popcorn that they provide. It's so nice that it's ridiculous. I'm not sure when I'm going to let him out of the room to "relax" when I am busy pushing a baby out and all the women in the class felt the same way. I think the hospital had too much extra $ donated to them or something!
